Jackson has been Mississippi's primary city and economic capitol for almost two centuries. Although the city had more prominence in its antebellum heyday, Jackson remains an important city in Mississippi and the South in general. Jackson has a fair number of business licenses and permits as does the state of Mississippi. Entrepreneurs are likely to spend more time and money getting their business licenses and permits than they will actually starting a business.
