Bakeries are typically regulated by county and city environmental health authorities. However, the licenses and permits required vary widely. In some places, licenses specific to bakeries apply, while in others bakeries are treated like other retail food establishments. However, in all cases, bakeries and other food sellers must have one or even several food safety licenses.
